Aidan Davison says goodbye to City tomorrow admitting: It's been a roller-coaster ride.

The 34-year-old stopper ends his second spell at the club by attempting to keep out the division's leading scorers.

Davison, who first joined City on loan in 1997, said: "There have been ups and downs but I've enjoyed it. I've certainly no regrets.

"First time I was here we were bottom of Division One so there was a real sense of achievement to stay up. Then I came back when we were in the Premier League which was great for all involved.

"Then we had the news last summer about the administration which has made this season a very difficult one. But I can leave on a positive.

"With the strength of the squad we've under-achieved but there have been a lot of injuries, so all things considered it's probably been quite a successful season.

"Next year will be tough again but I can leave and say I've played my part."

Davison, 35 next Sunday, plans to play on for another two seasons and is not fazed by the prospect of searching for another club.

He added: "I don't want to go on forever, another year or two and then it will be retirement time.

"I've been around forever and know a lot of people in the game so I'm not worried about being out of contract. I'm quite an upbeat person and this is a new chapter.

"When I came back from injury this season, my form wasn't of the quality I set myself and mentally I wasn't right which I admit.

"But once I got back in the team since Christmas I feel it's gathered momentum and I've got stronger."

Davison is fairly philosophical about the club's decision to axe five of the senior players as belts are tightened to meet a more modest wage bill.

"Everyone knows the situation with the finances so it was not a big shock. Things are pretty tight generally in football and some of the guys on bigger money have had to take wage cuts.

"But it will be a nice day to go out on tomorrow. It's a fine stadium so it's the way it should be with big crowds, big teams and big games.

"I just hope it's not too much of a testimonial. Portsmouth have had a great season and we've done what we need to."
