A 28-year-old man is thought to have been robbed and beaten as he made his way home from a night out in Keighley.

The Keighley victim was so badly attacked that he cannot recall how he came by his injuries in the early hours of the morning.

He suffered a broken cheekbone, a severe head wound which needed stitches, severe bruising to his left eye socket and his nose and elbow were grazed.

All he can recall is waking on a stretcher when being admitted to Airedale General Hospital at Steeton, police reveal.

Later he learned his wallet and some cash were missing.

Keighley Detective Inspector Trevor Gasson said officers believed he had been robbed at or near Rehmen's fish shop in Alice Street, Keighley, between 1.30am and 2.20am on Saturday, May 10.

"He had been out with friends visiting pubs and on his way home decided to get something to eat," said DI Gasson.

"He ordered food at Rehmen's and then can recall nothing until he woke on the stretcher at Airedale."

Detectives understood he had spoken to three white youths in the fish shop and to members of staff.

"We are particularly keen to speak to the three youths. They may be able to assist us in finding out what happened," he added.

Anyone with information should telephone Keighley police on (01535) 617083 and ask for Detective Constable Andrea Simpson.
