Missing pensioner Peter Butterfield has been spotted wandering on a Bradford golf course.

The new sighting of the 72-year-old grandad was made on Sunday at Bradford Golf Club, Hawksworth.

He was spotted by a member of the club staff and even chatted to a group of golfers as he strolled along the fairway.

The police were alerted and a search, involving uniformed officers and the force helicopter, was immediately launched, but Mr Butterfield vanished. Sergeant Robert Marshall of Shipley Police said it was encouraging that Mr Butterfield, who suffers from depression, had been seen and appeared to be fit and well. But he said there was still no explanation as to why the OAP had gone missing and what he was doing. Sgt Marshall added that Mr Butterfield's family had been informed of the sighting.

He said: "I am sure they are happy he is still in the area but they are still concerned about him." Mr Butterfield, who has four grandchildren aged between one and eight, vanished from his home in Cullingworth on May 10. His wife Betty, 64, had gone shopping and when she returned her husband was gone.

Mr Butterfield has suffered from depression for 12 years and has been missing twice before, five and ten years ago. He is on medication for depression and high blood pressure but did not take it with him. His wife believes the thought of a pending appointment with a psychiatrist could have made him walk out.

Mr Butterfield was spotted on May 18 by a woman walking her dog near the caravan park at Baildon.

The latest sighting was at 8.15am on Sunday. When Mr Butterfield disappeared he was wearing a green wax jacket, beige trousers, two cardigans, one dark and one grey, dark shoes and a silver wristwatch.
