Midfield general Jamie Buchan got his just desserts at Eccleshill United's annual awards dinner when he scooped both the player of the year and players' player accolades.

Winger Scott Price picked up the top scorers award for his 14 goals in the season, while Robert Cornwall was named second-team player of the year and Cameron Nelson picked up the most votes for the Academy side.

"Jamie was a deserved winner and it just shows what an influential and integral part of the team he is," said United boss Tony Brown.

The manager has constantly referred to 23-year-old Buchan's new-found maturity and excellent stamina throughout the campaign and was delighted that he was honoured with both of the top awards.

"It's official that it's not just myself who thinks he has improved and is indispensable to the side. Jamie must have got 80 per cent of the votes so they all realise what he brings to the team every time he plays.

"I was very pleased for Cameron to be named the under-19 player of the year. He finished the season in the first team and is definitely one for the future," added Brown.

Even though it is the close-season and the players - and pitches-- are getting much needed rest there is no respite for the likes of former Leeds United defender Brown as he seeks reinforcements.

"As far as I know all the players will be returning for pre-season training with the club and that is a good sign. I have spoken to most of them since the last game and at the presentation night and they all appear to be happy which is very positive.

"It is down to me now to get a few new players to build on the squad we have. I have spoken to a couple that I am interested in and am optimistic without going overboard just yet."
