A special Aireborough gro-up has been created to look at proposals to build a skate park in Nunroyd Park.

It has been proposed to use money which has been given to Aireborough through new housing developments, to create one at Nunroyd Park.

There is a need for a skate park in Yeadon and Guiseley after numerous complaints from businesses and residents of children skating on roofs and in private car parks.

At the Aireborough Comm-unity Involvement Team meeting last Thursday it was decided that a dedicated sub-committee would study proposals.

The group considered the option of creating the park on the right hand side of the park's entrance drive.

But some members of the CIT felt that it would be out of sight and cause problems.

Peter Middleton, of voluntary group VOICE, said: "The local park is not a suitable place. It is out of sight, it should be in a more central place.

"If you get a group of youths out of sight it might be ideal for drug dealers."

It was suggested that an alternative site on the West-field estate could be considered.

Guiseley Neighbourhood Watch representative Eric Bishop said that parents would be able to know what their children were doing if it was in Westfield.

Paul Wadsworth of the Westfield Tenants and Resid-ents Association explained that Westfield was happy to have it put in Nunroyd.

Police representative Serg-eant Steve Palmer praised the scheme. "It will attract youngsters away from crime and causing a nuisance," he said.
