A company which runs school summer camps in Bradford has won a top training award.

King's Sports Camps, which operates summer & Easter activity camps at Bradford Grammar School and Bingley Grammar School has been awarded the 'Greatest Commitment to IT Training' award for its on-line staff training package.

The award, sponsored by the Learning and Skills Council, was presented at a Federation of Small Business 'Technology in Practice' to King's Sports Camps senior manager Linda Gascoyne.

"We are surprised and delighted to have won the award," Linda said.

"The on-line staff training package was developed to enable our new recruits to complete their basic training in company policies and procedures at their own leisure, rather than it taking up valuable time as part of their formal training.

"Recruits have responded well as induction training time can now be used more effectively and allows us to focus more on fundamental issues, such as the practical activities and health and safety aspects of our camps."

As an on-line package, the staff training programme can be completed by King's sports staff from any location in the country.

The multiple-choice format, the system allows recruits to work through the programme.

Operating the UK's biggest network of sports camps, the King's Trust works with more than 30,000 children a year at 60 venues in towns and cities throughout the country to provide programmes of entertainment and sporting activities.

The Trust's 19 permanent staff spend their time organising venues, devising programmes and recruiting coaches to run on average 300 sport camp weeks a year as well as handling tens of thousands of bookings onto the camps.

The King's Trust has going since 1991. It is Trust and all funds go to projects such as supporting children with HIV/AIDS.
