A FULL 12 points from the Bank Holiday games saw surprise Airedale and Wharfedale League leaders Menston maintain top spot in Division A.

Menston have made a roaring start to the season following their promotion last term and Ted Lester's men have won four of the six games played, the remaining two being rained off.

The holiday games saw them demolish both Follifoot at home and Steeton away and Menston have opened up a seven points gap over Bilton in second place.

On Saturday Follifoot's big hitting line up posed few problems for the Menston side being dismissed for 154. Martin Knowles shrugged off the effects of a car accident to take a superb 5-29 off 10.4 overs. Richard Taylor also bowled solidly for 4-70 off 14 overs while Michael Bredenkamp put in a tidy spell of 1-22 off seven overs.

Menston lost six wickets in gaining victory opener Gary Thompson giving them a solid start with a knock of 36. All the batsmen chipped in with Ned Taylor with 24 and Richard Burton with 30 leading the way.

Menston had to work hard for their victory and this was achieved in the 51st over - Follifoot having been bowled out in 36.

On Monday Menston's bowlers again took centre stage with Martin Knowles and Richard Taylor each bagging three wickets as the home side was put out for a none too challenging 127.

Thompson produced another solid knock of 31 while Ned Taylor added to his growing reputation with 43.

Second placed Bilton had two five point draw hauls with the first coming at home to Bilton on Saturday. They totalled 198 and then restricted Lane to 127-9 with Luke Jarvis bagging 7-60 off 21 overs.

Danny Shuffe led the Bilton batting with a superb 75 with support from opener Stephen Phillips (32) and Carl Heptinstall (22).

It was a notable match for Lane's New Zealander Nishan Gonsalkorale. The wicketkeeper claimed six victims - two stumped and four caught - in the Bilton innings.

Monday brought another five point haul for Bilton when they made a massive 247-3 against Beckwithshaw. There was a century for opener Miles Corish which included 5 sixes and 10 fours and he shared a first wicket stand of 118 with Darren Murray.

Murray has turned in some impressive performances since taking over as opener and he made 54 as did Stephen Phillips.

Beckwithshaw crawled to 108-7 in reply struggling against the bowling of Anthony Burton who returned 3-48 off 16 overs.

Guiseley picked up ten points over the holiday but it was a black weekend for their wicketkeeper Steve Thompson who was reported by the umpires in both games and the matter will now be dealt with by the League Disciplinary procedure.

With skipper Mark Ross injured his brother Simon took centre stage hammering a fine 61 as Guiseley rubbed off Steeton's 149-9.

He and Graeme Wolfenden were promoted to open the innings and responded magnificently with Wolfenden also making a half-century. Andrew Paley had set up the win with a return of 40-33 off 16 overs.

Otley have also made a good start after their promotion last term and eight points over the weekend have taken them up into fourth place behind Guiseley.

They passed the 200 mark on Saturday at North Leeds thanks to a superb 81 from opener Sam Smith. Skipper Robert Atkinson made a useful contribution of 39 and David Brady (23) and David Taylor (22) chipped in.

North Leeds were dismissed for 155 in reply to 216-7 Australian Andrew Burke taking 4-58 off 21.3 overs. James Davies chipped in with 2-1.

Green Lane are languishing at the bottom as they rebuild. They took part in two drawn games over the holiday,.

Saturday saw them get the one point against Bilton while Monday saw them involved in a remarkable encounter with Hall Park.

The Horsforth side made 202-3 with opener Simon Wilson making 62 and Australian Michael Elliott a superb 81 not out. Neil Allitt was the only Lane bowler with any success taking 3-51 off 15.4 overs.

In an exciting game Lane finished one run short of the Park score at 201-7 to leave them with two points. Gonsolkorale made an excellent unbeaten 72 and was well supported by Garfield Williams with 41 but a couple of run outs did not help Lane in the final stages.

Hall Park picked up four points on Saturday from a drawn game with Adel. They batted first and made a fine 230-8, this was after openers Peter Kempton and Richard Simpson went cheaply.

Michael Elliott had another fine innings hitting 86 while Richard Allinson gave support with 31.

Adel made a brave effort in reply and finished on 190-8 thanks to some solid late order batting.

Collingham took five points from a drawn game at home to Beckwithshaw on Saturday. A half-century from opener M Thompson helped them to a final score of 178-8.

Beckwithshaw struggled in reply as Thompson completed an excellent performance with 5-35 off 18 overs. The Beckwithshaw innings was held together by P Thompson with 62.

Adel's Jon Francas had a devastating haul of 7-29 off 16.2 overs as North Leeds crashed out for 89 in reply to Adel's 158-7.
