WADDILOVE Cup holders Guiseley had an easy passage when their delayed tie ran into Tuesday night and Follifoot were only able to provide seven batsmen.

They were soon dismissed for 121 as they set out to chase the Guiseley total of 243 for five. Guiseley had got in only three overs on Sunday before rain ended play.

On resuming on Monday their batsmen soon got to grips with things and hammered a challenging score. Opener Mark Ross set the ball rolling with 41 and half-centuries followed from Ian Chaplin and Mark Best.

Although opener Brian Smart made an unbeaten 62 with only six fellow batsmen it was always going to be a struggle and their innings closed after 32 overs when they ran out of players.

Cup matches which continue on successive nights are always contentious issues but it is up to the club's to propose rule changes if they want to sort it out.

Kirkstall Educational beat Ilkley by four wickets to move into the next round. Ilkley made 221 with Craig Rackham top scoring with 48 and young Andrew Rhodes again adding to his reputation with 39 from the number eight spot.

An unbeaten century from number three Steve Harrison saw Kirkstall to victory in 41 overs. He hit one six and ten fours.

There was another century maker in Tong Park's Chandar Sheikar who hit 126 not out as his side passed the Skipton score of 244 for eight with seven wickets in hand. He had excellent support from Steve Young who made 78. For Skipton Australian Robert Dilger top scored with 63 and there was a half-century for S Carling.

Green Lane beat Illingworth who were restricted to a paltry 80 for seven with R Hargreaves making an unbeaten 29. Lane knocked off the runs for the loss of just one wicket with Barry McCormick making 35.

Carl Busfield hammered 72 after opening the Thackley innings and helped his side to a two wickets win over Harden. They had been dismissed for 168 despite the efforts of A Bairstow who made 41 and R Verity who made 35.

A knock of 46 by Barry Singleton assisted North Leeds to beat Silsden by three wickets. Silsden had posted 154 for seven with the major contribution being the unbeaten 95 of number three Darren Crook. The Kiwi had little or no support from his colleagues as Andrew Aldred took three for 32 and Singleton (2-19).

Beckwithshaw lost to Rawdon and Adel lost to Bilton, the latter having posted a magnificent 264 for eight. Openers Darren Murray and Miles Corish went cheaply but a sparkling 137 not out from Steve Phillips supported by 50 from Mick Emmerson saw them on their way to victory.

Adel then fell for 174 as the Australian Phillips completed an excellent all-round performance with a 3-21 return off nine overs. He was well supported by Heptinstall who took four for 52 and C Morley who bowled excellently for 0-17 off nine overs.

The third round to be played on Sunday, June 29, is Bilton v Thackley, Guiseley v Green Lane, Kirkstall Educational v North Leeds, Tong Park v Rawdon.

The semi-finals will be played on Sunday, July 20, and the final will be held on Sunday, August 10, at Ilkley CC.

Birtwhistle Cup

The highlight of the Birtwhistle Cup second round was a game which provided two centuries. A sparkling 106 from Kirkstall opener Richard Ashworth saw his side knock off Ilkley's 232 with one wicket remaining. For Ilkley Harvey Watson had hit an equally magnificent 112.

Green Lane produced some excellent batting from Jamie Pickering (89), Phil Atkinson (69) and Steve Hargreaves (53) as they totalled 240 for five against Knaresborough. With M Ellis in fine form with the ball taking four for 32, Knaresborough were dismissed for 119.

Follifoot were no match for a Guiseley side which wiped out their 155 for six with seven wickets in hand, Ian Colquhoun taking three for 25. Glen Taylor hammered an unbeaten 70 as Guiseley romped home.

Hall Park had an easy nine wickets win over Tong Park after dismissing them for 84. Doing the damage were D Etherington with four for 13 off nine overs and C Hobson with three for 19 off nine. Mick Allan then hit an unbeaten 69 to ensure victory.

Rawdon were knocked out by Bardsey being bowled for 139 in reply to 159 for nine. Opener A Hall apart Rawdon had no answer to N Ireland (3-25) and D Holden (3-25).

A good knock of 61 from D Cook set Steeton up for a score of 209 for nine. In reply North Leeds were restricted to 158 for eight despite the efforts of G Wilcox with a fine 84. Colton fell 24 runs short of the Adel total of 194-6 after Don Helme (4-39) and J Pratt (3-29) had combined to dismiss them in 42 overs.

The third round to be played on Sunday, June 29 is -Thackley or Harden v Adel, Bardsey v Hall Park, Steeton v Kirkstall Educational, Green Lane v Guiseley.
