Another 65 people have been fined for not wearing seatbelts in the second phase of a crackdown in Bradford.

Police officers gave out the fixed penalty tickets in just under two hours on Toller Lane in Manningham.

Sergeant Paul Hepworth, community safety officer for Bradford North Police and the officer in charge of the operation, said he was "amazed" that people were ignoring the law during the afternoon blitz.

People flouting the law received on-the-spot fines of £30.

The team of 19 officers were taking part in the second of six action days at spots around the city.

The Telegraph & Argus reported how 116 people were fined in four streets in Clayton Heights, Undercliffe and Queensbury for not wearing seatbelts last week.

"I get mixed emotions when we stop so many people," said Sgt Hepworth. "It's obvious that people aren't taking the law on board.

"People are still not wearing their seatbelts and I was amazed that after the publicity drive in the T&A and from campaigners so many people were breaking the law.

"On the enforcement side I'm pleased that we are able to stop people, advise them and enforce the law if necessary."

Sgt Hepworth said the remaining five action days would take place in separate random locations before the end of the month.

He added 26 people were also stopped and fined by patrol officers and traffic officers looking for offenders every day since the campaign was launched.

Throughout the year Bradford North Police is mounting a series of campaigns and operations aimed at reducing the number of casualties on the district's roads alongside the Department of Transport's Think! campaign.
