A tree has been planted to mark the end of a year of upheaval and the success of the Otley school's reorganisation.

Pupils and staff at All Sain-ts Primary School gathered to celebrate the first year in their brand new school.

The anniversary was marked with a ceremony in the school hall and the planting of a commemorative tree by the Bishop of Bradford the Right Reverend David James.

Head teacher Jan Gasper said: "We've had a wonderful year in our new school and wanted to arrange a celebration event for the whole school to share.

"Our school orchestra provided music for the occasion and we invited parents to come along to the tree planting in the school grounds.

"As the tree grows in the grounds, All Saints will continue to grow and develop, with its roots firmly in the local community."

Last July saw the closure of All Saints Junior School, at North Parade, and Thomas Chippendale School, at Weston Ridge, as part of the school's reorganisation.

All Saints Primary School saw the biggest change as its size increased by 25 per cent.

The school's new junior wing opened in January and the tree planting has now marked the end of its successful first year as a primary.

Chris Edwards, chief executive of Education Leeds, said: "I'm pleased that everyone at Otley All Saints is enjoying their new school."

The tree will form the start of a garden for Year Six children, with a quiet area for reading and space to sit and talk.
