As a result of some good performances at the British championships and the inter-regional competitions, several junior runners from Airienteers have been given international honours.

Jack Wood (M14), Ben Stevens (M16), and Victoria Stevens (W14) have all been selected to represent England in the Orienteering Junior Home Internationals in October.

Jack attends Guiseley School, and both Ben and Victoria are at Bradford Grammar School.

The event will be held at Inniskillen in Northern Ireland and it is expected that the England team will be too strong for the teams representing Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Hector Haines (M14) from Ilkley and Rose Burden (W18) from Shipley have been named as reserves for the event, showing the talent that Airienteers - the orienteering club for Leeds and Bradford - have in their junior ranks.

All five runners will be going to the Scottish Highlands this summer to take part in a training programme funded by Sport England.

Meanwhile at club level, Airienteers won through to the final of the CompassSport Cup which was held in East Anglia. The club finished in fourth place in this National Clubs competition - one place higher than last year.

The club holds regular training sessions throughout the summer on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and the Junior Training programme will start again in September. Orienteering is for young and old, novice and expert. If you want some more details visit the club web-site at www.aire.org.uk or contact the Publicity Officer on 01943 430115.
