Scorching heat heralded another successful day for the East Morton Gala on Saturday.

Visitors were treated to a variety of entertainment and were wowed by The X-treme motorbike stunt riding display team

One of the organisers, Gill Clarke, said: "It was a wonderful day and thanks also go to a lot of people who got involved on the day and helped the committee run another successful family day, yet again."

The parade was led through the village by the East Morton Thumpers, followed by the opening ceremony and crowning of the new gala queen, Emma Langhorn, at the recreation ground.

Emma was crowned by retiring queen Laura Burchell. Emma then opened the gala alongside the winner of the competition to design the front cover of the programme, Ellie Kilcoyne, who is aged six and a pupil at East Morton Primary School.

Keighley Mayor Cllr Nancy Holdsworth was a guest of honour.

More entrants than ever took part in the fancy dress classes - cops and robbers, Harry Potters and Incredible Hulks abounded.

First prize went to East Morton School, who wore full trekking gear to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the climbing of Everest.

Second prize went to the Mother and Toddlers' Group.

Two other guests of honour were Doris Beanlands and Florence Bramall, who received the Graham Irving Trophy as a long-service award for their amazing work for the gala since its opening in 1961.

An energetic day of football, shooting, coconut shies, bouncy castles, slippery poles and trampolines was rounded off by children's races, tug-of-war and egg throwing competitions. Refreshment on the field was provided by a beer tent from the Busfeild Arms, and butcher Darren Todd provided a pig roast barbecue. The traditional home made teas were well supported in the institute.
