What a day - again! Record crowds and a great afternoon for all.

Every year the Cross Roads Gala is supported so well by local people and businesses, and this year was better than ever.

The Superior Jazz Band set everything rolling in style with twin Indian Chiefs in support leading the gala parade, which was based on a Wild West theme.

Lees Primary School had made a supreme effort with two floats, and their first carried the Gala Queen and King with attendants.

Cross Roads Juniors Under 12 footballers were enjoying being on their float with their recent winning trophy and the 8th Keighley (Cross Roads) Beavers, Cubs and Scouts were out in great numbers in fancy dress.

The Arizona Rangers rode into town on the back of a float, but no-one was arguing with rifles and pistols very much in evidence.

It was really pleasing to see the Haworth Riding for the Disabled group once again taking part, walking with the horses and ponies, followed by Lees Playgroup and Toddlers and St James' Toddler Praise.

The second of the school's floats with some rowdy Wild West cowboys and girls rolled by next, followed by the Oakworth Gala Queen and retinue.

In the field the Gala Queen and King, Shauna Sugden and Brett Milner, both Class 4, officially opened the event.

Their attendants were Georgina Dunstan, Andrew Pattison, both in Class 3; India, Class 2; Bethani Davies and Alfie Hird, Class 1, and Charlotte Hamilton and Miles Yeomans in Reception.

The Superior Jazz Band kept the mood light with their set, then Jim Ryder and Adam James played the first of their two Country & Western sets.

The Arizona Rangers staged a shoot-out after an explanation all about their flags and the history of the group.

Hedley Fawcett once again kept the little ones rapt with his tricks and illusions. The Prize Draw was made and a special afternoon drew to a close well past 5 o'clock.

Many thanks to Towler & Staines for the use of one of their wagons, and for supplying the barbecue equipment. All stalls were busy from the off and it was just great to see the whole community enjoying a lovely afternoon.

Many, many thanks once again to all those businesses who donated prizes for the Draw. All monies are once again going to local organisations. The amount isn't known yet.

Throughout the day the costumes reflecting the 'Wild West' really made the afternoon special, and the time and trouble everyone took was apparent to all.
