Cullingworth Gala has been hailed as a huge success after about 1,000 people flocked to enjoy a day of family fun.

Organiser Lesley Welch says she was thrilled with the high numbers who turned out to support the event.

She said: "It was a really good day all round and lots of people took part and had a great time.

"I don't know how much was raised in total but I suspect it was a good day. The sports club initially funds the event and then a lot of the separate village groups pay to be on site and then make their own funds on top of that.

"There were a lot of people represented - the Guides, Brownies, Rainbows and St John's Church.

"The Cat's Protection League were also represented and we had a mini fair ground for the kids. The Tenderloin Ragtime Orchestra played in the afternoon and were brilliant.

" It was just a good day out for the family."

The parade was also hailed a success and the organisers commented that the standard of the float entries was incredibly high, with some impressive and creative entries being put forward.

The opening ceremony took place at 2.30pm, when retiring gala queen Stefanie Smith passed on the crown to Samantha Winter, who was attended by Rosemary Hopps, Saskia Mori and Aneesa Miah.

The entry for the best decorated float was won by the pre-school play group with the theme of a winter wonderland.
