A Keighley couple with a shared love of cricket are celebrating their perfect match during the last 60 years.

Asa and Marion McIntyre will toast their diamond wedding anniversary next Thursday.

The couple were bowled over by each other at a wartime dance at The Baths Hall, off Highfield Lane, and were married two years later in Keighley Parish Church where Asa had sung as a choirboy and had been a member of the cricket team.

Asa, 84, says: "We couldn't go so far on honeymoon because of the war so we went to Blackpool and had a wonderful time."

Marion, 82, adds: "I remember that it was in the middle of the heatwave, so the recent weather has really reminded us of our wedding and honeymoon."

Asa worked as an engineer for Hattersley's for more than 40 years up until his retirement, while Marion was a mill worker employed by JP Heaton. After setting up home in Mornington Street, in Keighley for many years, the couple moved to Marley View at Crossflatts and then more recently to Earby in Lancashire.

Says Asa: "We like to share everything and enjoy watching different sports, particularly cricket. We agree with one another on most things and have had the same interests most of our lives."

The couple will be celebrating their many years of happy marriage with a family lunch at a local restaurant. Joining them will be son Graham, daughter Elaine, grandsons James, Ian, Scott and Lewis and great grandsons David and Alex.

Grandson Andrew, who is serving with British forces in Germany, will also be flying in for the meal with Asa and Marion's first great granddaughter, four-week-old Leanne.
