Young footballers have scored crime prevention goals thanks to a business and police partnership.

Keybury Security Systems agreed to sponsor an annual six-a-side football tournament for primary schools, organised by Keighley police.

The competition, first held last year, took place at Marley Stadium yesterday. This year it included school project work and was linked to the police Target initiative programme.

Youth project officer PC Glyn Butterworth said: "Last year we ran a mini-World Cup tournament, in which teams from 16 primary schools in the Keighley area took part.

"Pupils were asked to produce a flag for the country they were representing, which had the added benefit of getting the whole school involved.

"Such was the success of the project that we decided to repeat it this year with a new slant. As well as the playing aspect, again involving 16 teams, we asked pupils to look at crime prevention issues and design a poster or banner on the subject of house burglaries. Keybury Security's sponsorship is highly appropriate in this respect."

Schools liaison officer PC Dave Brown said: "The children are putting out messages on their banners. Youngsters have a vital input in crime prevention because they can have an effect on their parents."

Keybury, of Skipton Road, Keighley, has also provided a crime prevention information pack to assist the schools in their work. The pack includes a crime prevention quiz created by sales director David Lalor. Pupils can research pages on the company's web site - http://www.keybury.co.uk - to find the answers.
