A Silsden man has died suddenly while on holiday in Turkey.

David Hodgson collapsed and died from a suspected heart attack three days into a sunshine break at Olu Deniz.

He was holidaying with his wife, Dorothy, and some friends.

This week tribute was paid to the "doting family man".

Former warehouse manager Mr Hodgson, who was 58, had become a grandfather for the first time just weeks before his death. He was already a step-grandad.

Mrs Hodgson said he had been off work for eight months, after collapsing several times, and was due to go to Leeds General Infirmary for tests to try to establish the cause.

The couple had been married for 23 years.

She added: "He was really looking forward to going back to Turkey. He loved it there and we have some Turkish friends who he enjoyed his last night with."

"I cannot praise enough the Turkish people -- the hospital and hotel staff and tour operator -- for all their help and kindness."

Her daughter Claire, one of Mr Hodgson's three step-children, said: "They had gone on holiday with friends for a fortnight. They left on the Friday and dad died very suddenly on the Monday.

"It was totally unexpected and has hit us all hard.

"He was a doting father and step-father and was overjoyed when his first grandchild through his biological daughter, Lucy, arrived just six weeks ago.

"One of his great interests was caravanning and he and mum would go off on holidays just about every weekend. He loved it."

Shipley-born Mr Hodgson worked for John Menzies for 37 years. He was manager at the Keighley site before transferring to Bradford. After being made redundant, he worked for about two years at the Damart warehouse, in Steeton. He and his family moved to Silsden 14 years ago.

The funeral service and cremation takes place at Nab Wood next Friday, 3pm. Donations in lieu of flowers are requested for the cardiology unit at Airedale Hospital and a collection plate will be provided at the chapel.
