These between-the-wars stallholders in Keighley Market are having fun with some giant bananas of compressed cardboard sent by Fyffes for advertising. On the right is Mrs Mary Heaton next to her husband Charles; the others are assistants.

Charles and Mary Heaton were part of a well-known family business, John Hindle (Keighley) Ltd. , potato, fruit and vegetable merchants.

The photograph has been supplied by Mr Allan Hindle, of High Spring Gardens Lane, who followed on.

He observes that it must have been taken in summer, when the stall was brought forward on to barrels. Keighley Market around the 1930s was well-served by one of its tenants, George A Shore, who combined a carpet and linoleum warehouse with freelance press photography, and who captured many of the stall-holders' lighter-hearted moments.
