Wakefield Trinity 26
Cougar Academy 9 - Silly mistakes at crucial times handed the inititive back to the Trinity after Cougars had controlled the game, they should have won, for long periods.
After the match coach Paul Hazlewood declared: "Wakefield didn't win the game - we lost it."
Things began well enough with the Cougars pressing hard and Eddie Wilson was just held on the line, and although they took the lead with an early drop goal, it was scant reward for their pressure.
Handing over the ball twice in their own quarter proved costly as Wakefield cashed in with two tries to give them a very frustrating half time lead.
The Cougars resumed again on top and after a Tom Kenna try was disallowed they went in again, with Colin Pickles making it 8-5. From the kick-off Cougars surrendered the ball back to Wakefield who scored to stretch their lead to 12-5.
Again Cougars came back and it was no surprise when Rob Mcdonald, having an outstanding afternoon, went in to make it 12-9 and the game looked there for the taking for the Cougars.
To everyone's horror they again gave the ball away from the kick-off, and from the resulting scrum the Wildcats virtually sealed their victory with a walk-in try. Scott Bellamy was sin-binned and with 12-men there was no way back for Keighley. Two late tries, both converted, gave the Wildcats a very flattering victory.
Eddie Wilson, Rob McDonald and Tobias Williams worked their socks off, with McDonald just shading the man of the match award.
n Tomorrow (Saturday) they are home to Hudderfield Giants, kick-off 2.30pm.
