THERE were two battle royals in the semi-finals of the Wynn Cup on Sunday with both games going down to the last ball.

Bradley and Cowling battled it out in sweltering heat at Haworth in a South Craven derby.

Bradley batted first and set a challenging target of 197-5 in their overs, with Craig Tempest 41 and Neil Andrews 40 the main contributors.

Cowling's response started slowly, before Gareth Frankland 67 and skipper Martyn Dalby got them back on track. With six wickets left the last over was reached with four required to win. This was reduced to one off the last ball, which was duly despatched to the boundary for a memorable victory.

Definitely Cowling's man of the match was Frankland. He kept wicket for 45 overs, then batted for 35 overs for his 67, in the sweltering heat.

Over at Skipton CI, Oakworth tackled Barrowford and batting first they raced to 69-0 off 19 overs, then four quick wickets, including Michael Scarborough for a golden duck, left them 84-4 off 26 overs. Mark Price made 44 before the tail wagged to get them to 167-7 at the close of the innings, with Tim Walsh making 34no.

Pick of the bowlers was Farouk Shaezad, who claimed 4-19 off 12 splendid overs and Glen Hargreaves, 3-40.

In the red rose reply Ajmal Choudry 36 and Gary Keast 29 kept them in the hunt and they arrived at the last two overs wanting 16 to win. This was reduced to four off the last ball for victory. Agonisingly for them they could only manage two runs so the Cure Hill side take their place in the final by just one run.

The final will be played at Bradley on Sunday August 17.

This week sees the Cowling Cup semi-finals with Glusburn meeting Airedale at Sutton and Thornton taking on Embsay at Carleton
