An Otley pub landlady is lucky to be alive after sitting yards away from a terrorist bomb blast in a Spanish holiday resort.

Margaret Marston, of The Bay Horse pub, on Boroughgate, was caught in the explosion which happened in Alicante on Tuesday.

The 61-year-old was drinking orange juice in a seafront caf when she heard a loud bang and ran for her life.

A bomb had exploded outside a hotel 50 yards from the caf she was in.

"I was just sat in a caf watching the sea and having a sandwich when there was an almighty bang," she said.

"Everyone froze on the spot and then started running away. I just looked at what happened and I began to run as well. Nobody knew what was happening.

"Bricks were flying through the air, all the windows were smashed and the tables were upside down.

"The windows of the caf were cracked and everything was covered in orange dust and debris. The ambulances were taking lots of people to hospital."

A British woman and four policemen sustained injuries in the attack when the bomb went off in the Hotel Residencia Bahia.

Margaret believes she had a lucky escape and had to return to the scene to make sure she was not dreaming.

"I was lucky I was not injured or killed, some people were hurt," she said.
