A MAGNIFICENT bowling display by Yeadon saw them gain a valuable victory over high riding Baildon on Saturday.

Grant Soames' side skittled Baildon for just 91 runs in 31.5 overs and took advantage of Idle losing to narrow the gap to just one point. Yeadon have been fighting a rearguard action all season but there can be no faulting their attitude and they are determined to battle on to the end.

They have spent all season in the relegation zone and with 11 games still to play they will be hoping for more results like Saturday's to improve their chances of remaining in Division One of the Bradford League.

Baildon openers Paul Spragg and P Slater were both soon back in the pavilion to the combination of wicketkeeper Dave Russell and bowler James Postill.

The 12-2 soon became 25-4 as Chris Henry struck a double blow having Baildon skipper Simon Davies caught by Jamie Kennaway without troubling the scorers and former Guiseley junior player Matthew Duce being caught by Grant Soames for eight.

This brought former Yeadon skipper Craig Thornton to the crease but he was not allowed to shine being caught by Gulsharez Ahmed off the bowling of Soames for nine. Soames continued to bowl impressively taking 4-22 off his nine overs as Baildon stuttered to 91 all out.

Yeadon produced some excellent fielding with nine wicketds falling to catches. Only Harvey Anderson hit the wickets bowling David Wigley for ten.

Anderson was Yeadon's first wicket to fall with Wigley returning the compliment thanks to a catch from M Ahmed.

Young James Todd contributed a good 20 as Yeadon edged their way to victory with Jon Carey promoted up the order to make 16. Gulsharez Ahmed (19 no) and Jamie Kennaway (23 no) then completed the job in the 35th over to gain six valuable points.

On Saturday Yeadon travel to mid-table Cleckheaton hoping to build on this success and on Sunday entertain Woodlands. The Secondsa entertain Bankfoot on Saturday and visit Morley on Sunday.

Yeadon Seconds had another easy win as they continue their pursuit of promotion. They dismissed Bowling Old Lane for a mere 55 on Saturday and knocked off the runs for the loss of one wicket.

As Old Lane were dismissed Paul Machell claimed 3-10 and brother Richard 2-12 while Aftab Ahmed and Nick Darfield also bagged two wickets each and Richard Wood one.
