Cougar Academy 21 Huddersfield Giants 39 - With the score at 21-24 a sparkling move down the left brought a try in the corner for James Robinson and Cougars appeared to have taken the lead for the first time.

Celebrations were cut short when the linesman on the far side of the field disallowed the try for a forward pass, while the official five yards away saw nothing wrong.

The decision was a gamebreaker for from the resulting scrum the Giants went the full length of the field to make the game safe.

It was an indication of the way the Academy's luck has been going.

The game opened very brightly for Keighley who mounted good pressure on the Giants' line, but were unable to break through. As the Giants broke out of defence their outstanding players, Tom Hemingway and Phil Joseph combined brilliantly to score three tries in a devastating 10-minute spell to take a 14-0 lead.

To their great credit the Academy rolled up their sleeves and two excellent penalties and a drop goal from newcomer Liam Duffy eased them back into the game. Further Cougar pressure saw Scott Bellamy plunge over beneath the posts, but again the celebrations were cut short when the referee ruled he was short of the line.

The script was now written for a Giants breakaway and the Cougars slipped 9-20 down as half time approached.

The Academy scored just before the break with Matty Steel blasting over and Duffy adding the conversion to go in nine points behind.

They were fired up after the break with Eddie Wilson racing in for another converted try. A sweeping move saw Cougars over the line but Adam Webster knocked on.

The Giants blasted back with Phil Joseph completing his hat-trick before Webster made up for his earlier mistake by scoring in the corner to throw the game wide open at 21-24.

The came Robinson's disallowed try and the game was gone.

Matty Steel led his young side superbly with Scott Bellamby and the tireless Eddie Wilson outstanding while the young Rob Weir had his best game yet and shaded the man of the match award.
