Glusburn celebrated the opening of their new pavilion by reaching the Cowling Cup final for the first time since 1986.

The pavilion has given the whole club a boost with both senior teams challenging at the top of their divisions while the 2nd XI are flying the flag in the cup.

They faced Airedale in the semi-final with the Keighley side batting first. Paul Feather made 33 as they closed on 92 all out and Ian Ridehalgh took 4-6 as the innings folded. Earlier skipper Richard Smith had taken three wickets.

Run-machine, Matt Lloyd failed for once as he only reached 17. However, his team mates rallied round and they galloped to the final by with a six-wicket victory, G Barr leading the way with 26no.

Meanwhile at Carleton, Thornton locked horns with Embsay. The Booth Bridge Lane side took advantage of some wayward bowling and sloppy fielding to amass 168-9. Opener David Harrison, 36, and No 3 James Cowgill, 24, took the score to 75 when Harrison was the second wicket to fall. Then Steve Laycock, 15, and Dan Stott, 34, put on 54 for the fifth wicket, before the tail got them to their total. Paul Barwick was the most successful bowler, finishing with 5-32 off 11 overs.

Embsay's reply got off to a flying start as Brian Hodgson put on 47 with Mark Tucker before rain interrupted play. On the resumption five runs were added before Laycock bowled Hodgson for 28. Barwick joined Tucker and the pair made steady progress to their target.

Allowing for another interruption for rain they encountered few problems other than Barwick tweaking a hamstring, which entailed him having a runner - Brian Hodgson! (With great respect to the pair of them it was difficult to tell who was running for whom).

The scores were level when Tucker went for a fine 51. First ball of the next over Barwick was lbw for a splendid 66 which included two sixes and 10 fours, but Nas Hussain dispatched the second ball he received for a match winning four.

The final will take place at Ingrow on August 10 when Glusburn will meet Embsay in a repeat of the last final in which they took part.
