CROWDS cheered as Jackie Dennis crossed the finish line in the 'Race for Life' last weekend.

Jackie, from Haworth, is fighting Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma -- a form of cancer -- but was determined to take part in the money-raising event to raise funds for Airedale Hospital and cancer charities.

She was joined by 60 friends and members of her family.

Despite being weakened by the illness she walked 2k of the 5k course and completed the rest in a wheelchair before showing her determination by walking the last few yards at the head of her supporters. "It was very emotional at the finish. All the members of the team joined me to cross the line and everyone applauded us -- it was just lovely," she said.

A member of the team, athlete Christine Preston, was first to finish the run and Jackie brought up the rear. They raised over £600 for HODU, Airedale's Haemotology and Oncology Day Unit, with much more going to Cancer Research.
