Ernest Trolley, who died on Tuesday, July 8, aged 91 and was buried in Oakworth Cemetery on Monday, was born in Eccleshill, Bradford in 1912.
He won a scholarship to Fosters Central School when he was 10.
He was a carpenter and joiner by trade and served in the army during World War II.
He moved to Keighley 46 years ago, at one point keeping pigs and chickens at Thwaites with his brother. He was a member of Bradford Family History Society up to a few years ago and joined Keighley and District Family History Society for a short while.
Ernest became a familiar figure wandering around Keighley's cemeteries taking photographs and collecting the inscriptions from the gravestones. Family historians worldwide are indebted to him for this work. He loved Keighley and was interested in its history.
He leaves a widow, Mary, a son, David, two daughters, Jean and Susan, and grandchildren Nicola and Mark.
