The moors above East Morton became the scene for a dramatic clash between the Russians and Norwegians when a YTV film crew stepped in. The cameramen filmed the explosion of a Pembroke aircraft, for a new spy series, The Sandbaggers, which goes out in September. Newsmen waited more than two hours while special effects men rigged the aircraft, which was brought up from Andover last week, to explode.

The gates were closed 15min. before the start of play in the Leeds Test. By that time over 35,000 were in the ground, and about 10,000 were waiting outside. Stewards were sent round the ground asking people to close up in the hope that a few more could be squeezed in. Queues at Kirkstall Lane and St. Michael's Lane began to form before dark, and before dawn stretched beyond the limits of the ground.
