A 55-year-old woman has told how she struggled with a robber who jumped into her car and grabbed her wristwatch and gold necklace.

The attacker elbowed Yvonne Frost, of Long Lee, in the face as she hooted frantically on the car horn to attract help.

But the man, in his 20s, leaped out of the car and sped off in a stolen Ford Escort from the car park, in St Ives park, Bingley.

Mrs Frost said: "It was very frightening. It's not a thing you expect to happen. I had no idea what to do."

Keighley police are hunting the robber, who struck at 8.20pm last Friday.

Detectives are trying to trace the car, an orange Ford Escort with the registration H658 HLE, which had been stolen earlier in central Bradford.

"I was waiting for my ex-husband in the car while he took the dog for a walk," said Mrs Frost.

"The man opened the door and jumped in and said 'I'm taking the car'. I was taken aback. He had his hand on the keys in the ignition and I reached out to pull him back. I sounded the horn to try and attract someone's attention and he elbowed me in the face. He then pulled off my necklace and watch and jumped out."

Det Chief Insp Roger Gasson, of Keighley police, said: "This was a nasty attack and we need to find this man." The property he took was a silver and gold Citizen's wristwatch, with a Babalone face, and a gold necklace, with large flat links and a T-bar.

The robber is described as aged between 20 and 25 years old, about 5ft 5in tall with pointed features, dark hair and stubble.

Anyone who has information about the car or saw it in the St Ives area on Friday evening should telephone Keighley 01535 617083.
