Headteacher Margaret Rookes has waved goodbye to her pupils after 28 years of teaching.

Mrs Rookes, 55, has spent 13 years at Grove House Primary, Myers Lane, Eccleshill, 12 as head teacher. She is pictured with some of the youngsters who sang a touching farewell to her at an event organised by the school.

Mrs Rookes, who has just moved to Idle, Bradford, was presented with vouchers for furniture store IKEA and for a gliding lesson by staff at the school. Parents and children from all years also gave her pots and plants for her new home.

Mrs Rookes is looking forward to spending more time travelling in her retirement, with her partner Martin Phillips. Wales and Ireland will be the first stops on her holiday itinerary.

Bryn Llewellyn, deputy headteacher, said: "She has been Mrs Grove House since she joined."
