YORKSHIRE were crowned county fellrunning champions after a superb performance in the Inter-County Chmapionships last weekend.

The Championships were held as part of the Ingleborough Fell Race on a 7-mile route straight up and down the rugged slopes of Yorkshire's most famous hill.

Rob Jebb, Andy Peace and Will Smith made up the men's t4eam with non-scorer Robin Lawrence and impressive 13th.

Jebb, the current British championship leader won the race.

Cononley's Helen Johnson led the Yorkshire Ladies home on the same course, taking fourth place. Sharon Taylor was fifth and Wendy Barnes ninth to take the team silver medal just two points behind Cumbria. Non-scorer was Sue Becconsall in 18th place.

Team manager Dave and Eileen Woodhead were delighted with the result. "It was a superb day's racing and to come back with four gold and four silver medals was brilliant," Dave said.

Several locals, including Andy Peace, Helen Johnson, and British Champion Ian Holmes will be competing for England at the International Snowden Mountain Race this weekend.
