We decided to sample the delights of Cliffe Castle for Tuesday's training session following our defeat by Chorley -- we thought a nature trail around the grounds would 'freshen' us up.

Those of you familiar with Cliffy will recall that there are the one or two 'slight inclines' dotted around the grounds and the lads were encouraged to trot up them briskly whilst taking in the antics of the squirrels and various other forms of wildlife.

The session had a remarkable effect on the lads. I presume they were so taken by the peace and tranquillity of the surroundings that there was an unfamiliar quiet in the ranks - apart from the odd gasp for air.

Even Ashy was not his usual chirpy self, amazing place that Cliff Castle.

Last time we were in London we travelled down on the day the clocks went forward, losing an hour's sleep then travelling down on a scorching hot day.

It was so hot we decided to stay outside at half time for our team talk.

As I was briefing the lads I could see a bloke walking towards us on the empty terraces. As I continued he was edging closer and closer and I began to think the Skolars had sent him over to spy on our tactics.

By the time he was within a few yards I was getting slightly wound up and told him to 'go away' (I forget my exact words), but he left pretty smartish.

It turned out the guy was Danny Ekis's dad who lives in London and hadn't seen young Danny for two years and following my 'hospitality' he probably wouldn't be seeing him for another two.

I rushed out to find Danny's old man and thought I would buy him a beer but he had already gone.

I had a word with Danny who assured me that he wasn't offended and offered to accept the beer on his dad's behalf!

I'll hopefully get a chance to make amends this weekend.

On a serious note five hours travelling is hardly the best preparation for a game.

When we where there in March the 'Cougar Army' were there in numbers and they are also running a bus this weekend.

I know we haven't given you much to shout about recently but hopefully we can put that right on Sunday, your support is very much appreciated.
