A top level sporting delegation, including the government's Minister for Sport, Richard Caborn, is due to visit Keighley next week.
The minister, together with David Gent, Director of Sport England's Yorkshire Region and Peter Price, Chairman of the new Regional Sports Council, is due to see the work being done by the sportKeighley partnership.
The visit, part of a tour of key sporting projects in the Yorkshire region, has been recommended by Sport England following the creation of the sportKeighley partnership and the launch of the Physical Activity Action Plan (PAAP).
The plan has been drawn up to provide a practical framework for the development of all aspects of sport and physical activity for everyone in the district.
The plan tackles the main issues relating to physical activity for all people in the town (not just keen sportspeople), and has gained support from schools, clubs, community groups, the healthcare sector, local and district councils, the voluntary sector and the private sector. The key issues are communication, facilities, infrastructure (including transport), coaching and leadership, clubs, funding and regeneration and community pride.
The plan is supported by our own MP Ann Cryer and by many of the key sportKeighley partner organisations.
"The Minister will visit key sites and projects, and hopefully get a flavour of the sporting potential within the town," said sportKeighley leader, John Dennis.
