Skipton Athletics Club's rising young fell and cross-country starlet, Stuart Hunn (pictured left), won a fell set of gold, silver and bronze medals when representing England at last week's Black Forest Teenager Games at Sasbachwalden in Germany, (writes Roger Ingham).

The 16-year-old finished third in the up-hill only Berglauf mountain run behind his two England team-mates, Alister Brownlee and Johnny Mellor with only seven seconds separating the trio.

Such a commanding display by the English team easily earned them the gold medal ahead of nearest challengers Czechoslovakia.

The Skipton youngster added a silver to his collection when he finished runner-up to Poland's Marcin Pelar in an undulating terrain race.

Buoyed by his achievements on the continent, Hunn returned to home soil and galloped clear of the pack in fine style to win Saturday's Ingleborough Junior Mountain Race at Ingleton Gala. (Race details on Page 10).

Meanwhile, other prominent Craven youngsters were representing North Yorkshire at the English Schools Athletics finals at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium.

For the second successive year, leading local performer was Skipton Girls' High School student Amy Fawcett, who threw a personal best of 37.01m to finish eighth in the Intermediate Girls' Discus.

One other personal best performance from a local athlete at Sheffield came from South Craven School's Matthew Cottam, who clocked 24.17 seconds in the Junior Boys' 200m to miss out on a final place by a whisker.

Bingley Harrier Cottam, from Steeton, together with Skipton AC's Hannah Simms from Cononley, ensured two South Craven victories at the Bradford Schools Championships at Keighley's Greenhead track.

North of England champion in the sprint hurdles, Cottam again opted for the 200m for which he took the Year 9 Boys' title, while Simms returned a personal best of 5.23.07 to win the Year 8 Girls' 1,500m.
