THE arrival at The Avenue of Skipton pair Adam Oldfield and George Smithson may have provoked a good deal of discussion in local rugby circles, but Wharfedale have also been busy adding to their manpower in other directions.

Of special interest to fans will be the return of two other 'old boys' - Carl Burnett and Tony Jackson.

Burnett, who played mostly on the wing, will be particularly remembered for one remarkable performance. He inscribed a singular record in the club's books with a six-minute hat trick in the home win over Nottingham in September 2001.

A leg injury and a busy work schedule prevented Burnett from reaching his full potential a couple of seasons ago.

Jackson's rugged presence in the back-row was much missed when he left the club for Australia, where he played for the Eastwood and Eastern Suburbs clubs and subsequently had a few months as a professional with Spanish club Valencia.

He is back on the island, but there is still a measure of uncertainty regarding his employment prospects.

Also 'returning' to the club is Gareth Johnston, who plans of moving to London have been put on hold.

New signings also include Pedram Salashouri, a speedy wingman from Stockton, and Ben Roche, centre/scrum-half, from Middlesborough.
