Frazer McHugh hopes that the latest addition to City's week of wonder goals will push his claims for a first-team opening.

The 22-year-old hit the target in spectacular style for the reserves against Stoke last night, rumbling forward from right back to smash in a left-footer from 25 yards.

It followed hot on the heels of the long-range strikes served up by Andy Gray and Lewis Emanuel at Cardiff.

McHugh, pictured, said: "I saw those two goals on the TV and they were different class. The first team is where you want to be scoring those kind of goals, and hopefully if I get the chance maybe I'll be able to do that one time.

"I prefer to play midfield but you can't always do that.

"Defensively if someone had got at me I might have been caught out because I've never really played right back before but it's all about learning and I'm enjoying that.

"We've got some very good players here and a big squad which you need.

"Obviously everyone wants to be playing but you have to accept it when you are not and keep working hard.

"Everyone gets on well and whoever is playing, we all want our team-mates to do well because we are all in this together."

McHugh, who signed a one-year deal at the end of last season, made his debut at Gillingham on Easter Monday. He also played the first half against Preston.
