An EastEnders star has revealed he visited Bradford for his favourite Asian-style clothes.

Shane Ritchie, who plays cheeky chappie Alfie Moon in the BBC soap, had a shopping spree in the city last month.

The television presenter and star of hit musicals Grease and Boogie Nights picked up two Asian outfits which have proved to be some of his favourite off-screen gear.

The 39-year-old - recently named Sexiest Male at the British Soap Awards - especially likes wearing a white shalwar kameez with waistcoat.

Phil Dale, Shane's manager, said the actor was driving through Bradford when a shop window caught his eye.

"He saw something in the window he fancied and went into the shop," he said.

The star had been to Bradford for a personal visit and was on his way to Blackpool to see his two sons, 14-year-old Shane Jnr and 11-year-old Jake.

"It was totally unplanned," Mr Dale said.

And Shane is thrilled with his new purchases, which he has worn several times.

"He loves them. He bought them because he likes different styles of clothing and something a bit different. He liked the look of them," said Mr Dale.

Staff at Bombay Stores in Shearbridge Road say Shane has been a customer - but they didn't even recognise him at first.

Departmental manager Mohammed Saghir said: "Afterwards we were saying 'he's got a very familiar face'. I thought 'I know him from somewhere'."

It was down to the worker's friends to point out it was Shane.

Mr Saghir said Shane selected two outfits when he went to the store during a visit to Bradford.

"He bought a cream-coloured outfit - he wanted a Bollywood theme.

"He also took one black kurta pajama, which is a top and bottoms."

The manager said Shane spent about £150 in the store in total and told shop assistants: "It's the first time I have ever worn something like this."

The outfit is a far cry from Queen Vic landlord Alfie Moon's Hawaiian shirts, but Shane has complained in the past he cannot wear some of his own clothes because they are too much like his on-screen character's.

It isn't the first time stars have shopped at Bombay Stores - Mr Saghir said boxer Frank Bruno and singing sensation Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud were among the celebrities to have visited.

And style guru Linda Barker once named it among her favourite stores to buy home accessories.

He said the store, which opened on its current site in 1983, had lots of English customers following the recent trend for Bollywood style.
