Rugby union part-timers Bradford and Bingley have pulled off a major coup by signing Bulls' Super League Grand Final-winning player Tevita Vaikona.

The 16st 2lb winger is expected to train at the club's Wagon Lane ground tonight and could make his debut at home to Morley on Saturday.

It is understood Vaikona, who has won two Grand Finals and two Challenge Cups with the Bulls, has signed a temporary deal with the Bees until December.

The club's director of rugby, Geoff Cooke OBE, said Vaikona would be playing until Christmas when he will return home to Tonga for a well deserved Christmas break.

"It's great for us to have a player of his quality even if it's just for a few weeks and it will help our bid for promotion this year," he said.

"He regularly pops down to the club and he's got friends down here in the Tongan players Joe Nau and Chris Hala'uifa."

"I think he just wants to play. He has friends at the club and he's looking to play Rugby Union for a change."

Cooke said Vaikona had planned to play last season but injured an Achilles tendon at the end of the Bulls' season.

It is understood Vaikona, who has scored 175 tries in 253 appearances for Hull FC and Bradford, won't be paid for his services to the club, who play in North One.

The resurgent Bees have scored 418 points in seven competitve match since being promoted from North Two East.
