Bradford's Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh today said the girl band wanted to put Cheryl Tweedy's assault conviction behind them and "get on with their lives."

The 19-year-old, from Allerton has told her family none of the girls believe Tweedy, who was yesterday convicted of attacking a black nightclub attendant, is guilty.

Twenty-year-old Tweedy said she was "stunned and disappointed" after a jury at Kingston Crown Court found her guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. But the singer said she was pleased she had been cleared of another charge of racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Kimberley's father John, in Allerton, said he was stunned at the verdict. "Cheryl is a lovely girl with no pretensions - no air of 'Look at me.'"

Judge Richard Haworth sentenced Tweedy to 120 hours community service and ordered her to pay £500 compensation to victim Sophie Amogbokpa.
