Addingham 2, Otley Town 8

Addingham suffered their worst defeat for many seasons and quite frankly they got all they deserved in this Ilkley Roofing sponsored Wharfedale FA Challenge Cup tie.

Whilst Otley are in the middle of an injury crisis Addingham's is now into its third month, with Michael Kernick now requiring surgery on a knee injury and brother Carl still a few weeks away from a return.

Stevie Perkins should resume training this week now his plaster cast is off so there is some good news on the horizon.

That said there was little to cheer about on Saturday as Otley were in total control and played some quality assured passing football, that quite frankly Addingham just could not cope with. After only 15 minutes play Addingham were 3-0 down and that threat was there for Town to absolutely run riot.

They added a fourth on the half hour mark but for the next 20 minutes Addingham played something like a team and they held the upper ground. Otley may well say they took their foot off the gas with a four goal lead and that would be fair comment.

But it would take away a little edge of the only bright period in Addingham's game and in particular the gloss of David Tod's performance.

The 18 year-old has carried the fight through Addingham's horrendous injury crisis and on Saturday after 35 minutes he latched on to Denman's flick on and finished well with a left foot strike.

His was by far the brightest performance in an Addingham shirt, his effort and commitment to chase and try, and not give up a lesson to some of his more experienced teammates who in the shape of one or two, seasoned campaigners gave little if no effort.

To lose is one thing, to loose to a side as good as Otley Town is no disgrace but to lose without even mustering any effort is a criticism deservedly levelled at one or two of Addingham's most senior players.

After the break it is fair to say Otley played out the game with composed ease and they added a further four goals at regular intervals.

Addingham were pleased to give a substitute debut to Neil Davies who played well for the last 30 minutes once on.

Tom Rennolds came on as sub and he chased down the complacent 'keeper with ten minutes to go. The 'keeper tried to take the ball round him but Rennolds robbed him and tapped the ball into the empty net.

All in all a bad day for Addingham as Otley totally deserved the win. A bit more pride and effort on Addingham's part though would not have gone amiss.

l On Saturday Addingham are away to Thirsk Falcons. All players meet in the Crown at noon.
