Bradford-born Anthony McGrath's inclusion in the England one-day squad which leaves for the West Indies later in the winter could lead to him standing down as Yorkshire captain.

McGrath will have talks with Yorkshire's new director of cricket, David Byas, over the next few days to decide whether he should stay in the job or hand over to someone else who will be available more often.

Although McGrath should be present when Yorkshire report back for pre-season training at Headingley on March 1, he will leave for the Caribbean later in the month and not return to England until the second week in May.

If McGrath does well in the West Indies, he could win back his Test place with England and that would mean him missing most of Yorkshire's matches this summer.

Even if McGrath only holds on to his one-day place, he would not be available for his county in the middle of the season or towards the end.

"I am absolutely delighted to be included in the squad for the West Indies and am greatly looking forward to playing in the Caribbean," said McGrath.

"I got close to playing in England's first match in Bangladesh in the autumn but just missed out and it was difficult for England to change a winning side. We then went on

to Sri Lanka where the one-day part of the tour was virtually a washout and it meant I played very little cricket at all.

"To be honest, I was more happy with my form in the Test matches last summer than the one-dayers but I am confident of making some good scores if opportunities

come my way.

"As far as Yorkshire are concerned, my England selection means I will miss some of the preparations as well as the start of the season and I will be meeting David Byas very soon to see where we go from here.

"David and I had a chat before Christmas and we agreed that it was best not to make any decisions until after we found out if I was going to the West Indies. "

Despite having a lean time of it in Sri Lanka, McGrath's Yorkshire colleague Matthew Hoggard has kept his place in the England Test squad for the West Indies, while

Bradford-born off-spinner batsman Gareth Batty who lives at Cullingworth and now plays for Worcestershire, is wanted for both the Test and one-day series.

Byas commented: "It is great news that England will have two Yorkshire players in the West Indies in addition to Michael Vaughan. McGrath's inclusion means we will

have to have an early talk to resolve the captaincy situation but everything will be sorted out amicably.

"Hoggard now has the chance to put a disappointing pre-Christmas period behind him and go forward. If he takes wickets in the West Indies it will probably mean we will

be without him for much of next season but at least this will create opportunities for someone else."
