IT'S tradition and not even an overnight snow storm could stop the hardy New Year's day dippers taking the plunge in the chilly spa waters at White Wells.
Leading the way was tenant Mark Hunnebell.
He went in three times and fully submerged on each occasion but reckons it gets easier with each dip.
Sometimes the underground spa waters are actually warmer than the bathhouse itself. This year he estimated the temperatures were around seven degrees.
"It is invigorating and it works on a hangover," he said.
"A dip is a tradition but the baths have been here for so long there is history here too," said Mr Hunnebell who runs the caf with his partner Joanne Everall.
PC John Redding, 32, was among the dippers but he was having second thoughts on the way there.
The father-of-two based at Eccleshill police station in Bradford, said: "It was cold. Very. But not as cold as I thought. My head was fuzzy - tired rather than hungover - and it cleared it."
