Eight members of Keighley Model Railway Club made tracks for Lincolnshire to view an historic layout.

The contingent (pictured) visited the Gainsborough Model Railway Society's '0' gauge layout, representing the East Coast mainline in the 1940s and 50s. Work on the layout began in 1949, and the piece has been continuously developed over the years.

Running from a scale model of King's Cross -- through Doncaster and Retford -- to Leeds Central Station, the layout features an actual half-mile of track, over 100 locomotives, 250 freight wagons and dozens of passenger coaches. Trains run to an intensive timetable.

The Keighley club has other trips planned, including a visit to the East Lancs Railway steam weekend later this month and a weekend at the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways in May.

The club boasts several model railways in various scales including two major '0' gauge layouts, one of which - the newly extended Ravensbeck - will be on display at the Keighley Model Railway Exhibition at Victoria Hall on March 20 and 21.

General meetings are held weekly, and individual groups meet additionally to pursue particular projects.
