A Keighley woman has been questioned by detectives about accusations she sold her baby through an Internet deal.

The woman, aged 33, was arrested in Southampton, on December 11, where she had given birth to the little girl.

The baby has been taken into care by social services in the city.

The single mother has been questioned by detectives in Bradford's child protection unit, following accusations she attempted to sell the baby to three couples. She stood to make £20,000.

A Bradford police spokesman said: "A 33 year-old woman was arrested in Southampton on December 11 and has been questioned in connection with offences under the Adoption Act.

"She has been bailed pending further inquiries."

The authorities were alerted after she failed to keep an appointment at Airedale Hospital, Steeton. The woman, who can't be named for legal reasons, is understood to have a six-year-old son.

Bradford Council confirmed this week that confidential care proceedings were under way in relation to two children.

Officers could not comment further for legal reasons.
