YOUNGSTERS in Gisburn can look forward to some fun and games when an after school club is launched this month.

Dilys Day, of Ribble Valley Schools Out Clubs, has successfully secured £10,000 from the New Opportunities National Lottery Fund to set up the club.

And the funding is for three years so potentially there is £30,000 available for the new initiative.

The scheme will start on January 19 and will be held at the Festival Village Hall in Gisburn.

The idea is that children aged between four and 11 will be picked up from school by staff and taken to the club, where they can stay until 5.45pm.

Youngsters can take part in a variety of activities from crafts to computer games.

Mrs Day began the after school clubs a year ago.

She said: "I am trying to bring care into the village. It is handy for the parents. Everyone benefits from having the clubs locally rather than getting the children in a car and taking them to another village.

"It is going down really well and I have had quite a few parents showing interest."

The cost per session will be £4.75. For more information or to book a place contact Mrs Day on 01282 778464.

o The Earby Springfield After School Club is also offering activities for children aged between four and 11.

The club is open from 3.30pm to 5.25pm and drinks and snacks are provided. Children do not have to be pupils of the school to join.
