SETTLE Primary School has welcomed its new headteacher, Richard Wright.

Mr Wright, who was formerly headteacher at Kirkby Malham Primary School, succeeds Ian Parker who left last summer.

"It is a great privilege to be headteacher at Settle Primary School and I am very fortunate that Mr Parker has left me with the legacy of an outstanding school premises," said Mr Wright.

"The school is incredibly well resourced with a computer suite, dedicated library area and interactive whiteboards.

"My challenge is to make the very most of these facilities to not only promote the teaching and learning of children at the school, but to develop the extra curricular opportunities and allow the premises to serve the community.

"I will explore ways to allow Settle Primary School to be an extended school that not only offers nursery provision, but a breakfast club and after school child care for local families. These are very exciting times," he said.

This is Mr Wright's third headship. After teaching at two schools in Halifax he took charge at Cornholme Junior and Infant School in Lancashire before moving to Kirkby Malham.

He is not the only new member of staff at Settle Primary School this term.

Jill Elliott, who was formerly the school secretary at Langcliffe Primary School, is Settle's new school secretary.
