Bronte Wanderers 3
Intake 3
A three week lay-off and the Christmas period clearly took its toll as Bronte made a poor start to the game, allowing Intake a good early chance that was well saved by Heath Maddocks. Not surprisingly it was the visitors who eventually scored first and although Bronte began to create chances they were thwarted by some good goalkeeping combined with less than impressive shooting, and it was Intake who went in to half time in front.
Bronte again created chances early in the second half but couldn't beat Intake's keeper until Simon Thompson eventually fired home an unstoppable
left foot shot from a tight angle. This lifted Bronte's spirits but only momentarily as the visitors went 2-1 up virtually from the kick off.
As the second half progressed Bronte began to dominate long periods of the game but another goal failed to come.
Thankfully Dave Hull hit an excellent equaliser from a seemingly impossible angle and this gave the home side the confidence to play some impressive football for the remainder of the game. Simon
Thompson's well deserved second goal with only a few minutes to go seemed to give Bronte the three points they needed to continue to mount a challenge at the top of the table.
Unfortunately the last move of the game saw a bizarre defensive uncertainty allow the ball to find the back of the Bronte net for a very soft goal, which was immediately followed by the final whistle.
