BECKY GRANGER scored both goals as Keighley Ladies pulled off a vital 2-0 victory over Batteyford.

The Batteyford side were fourth in the league just a place behind Keighley, had lost just three games and had drawn 2-2 with top club Tadcaster just before Christmas. Their record was close to the Keighley girls who had also drawn with the top club, but had lost just two of their 11 games.

Both teams were packed with speed, skill and experienceand Batteyf9ord soon had the Keighley side under pressure. Defenders jane Potter, Hannah Nichol and Michelle Harrison had to work hard to keep them at bay.

Sian Sugden, Linsay Munro and Frances Nichol were have a far from easy ride in midfield as they had to fight for possession to feed strikers Granger and Maria McArdle.

After a goalless first halfGranger drove the ball into the corner of the net to give keighley the lead after 60 minutes.

Numerous corners were defended by th4e Batteyford team, but Keighley got the breathing space they were looking for when a pass from Frances Nichol found Granger who took on the whole of the defence from the half way line before blasting the ball home.

A last attempt by Batteyford was saved by Claire Atkinson who threw herself across goal and tipped the ball round the post.
