Bradford Rugby Club have sacrificed home advantage in order to play their first match of 1979. Their bottom-of-the-league Merit League match with New Brighton should have been played at Lidget Green, but with the Bradford pitch covered with snow, the game has now been switched to the Birkenhead ground. The New Brighton pitch is in perfect condition, mainly due to the sea air, so barring any more severe weather the 15 men of Bradford will be taking to the field hoping to start the year with a resounding win.

(West Riding) show there are 370 priests, 125 students for priesthood, 66 convents, 234 churches and chapels, 155 schools (with 33,162 pupils), and a Catholic population of about 200,000.
