Dean Windass today hit out at the section of the crowd who jeered Nicky Summerbee.

Windass was unhappy at the negative reaction from some fans when Summerbee came off the bench in City's 2-1 win over Crewe - their first at home in 2004.

The striker, who headed the opening goal, was also targeted by a few boo boys and feels the supporters were bang out of order.

Windass said: "The fans are frustrating me, there are some who just want to slag us off all the time.

"It was a joke the way Nicky was treated. How can you come on at home and get booed?

"People think that Nicky Summerbee doesn't care but that's just his character. He's a laidback lad on and off the pitch and that's just the way his life is.

"But he was gutted about what had happened and we don't need that. If people are going to do that then it doesn't help the cause.

"I had a go back at a fan on Saturday and that isn't me. But I'd had enough of them.

"The game is so easy when you're sat up there in the stand, you never make a mistake or give the ball away. When I was out for a month after the double hernia operation I was the best player in the world."

City ended a five-game losing run although with Derby also winning, Bryan Robson's side remain stuck in the drop zone eight points away from safety.
