Avenue suffered another UniBond Premier Division defeat but once again matched their opponents in every department except for finishing.
Having taken one point from their previous two games - both crucial matches against fellow strugglers - which left them third from bottom, Avenue were still in good spirits for the journey across the Pennines to second-placed Droylsden.
